Whether nipping to your next town or city, or globetrotting with your family or friends, Smartphone apps can make travelling much easier, and sometimes, much more fun. However, you’re a teen and it’s likely that you’re skint because you’ve spent this week’s pocket money on iTunes already. So here are a few FREE apps for you to snatch up.
Google Maps
Google Maps is a classic must have. Most Smartphones will likely already have it installed, but if not, it should be top of the list for you to download. Whether finding your bearings, looking for postcodes or getting directions, Google Maps is your best friend.
Wikitude
Wikitude is a super cool app that uses the latest tech to convert your phone’s camera into something really smart. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you just shoot your phone’s camera at a point of interest and it will provide you will a load of information, provided by travellers from all around the world. The app allows you to share your favourite places through Facebook and Twitter and guides you towards other apps, as well as great websites and online communities that will help you along your ramblings.
Gogobot
Gogobot is more than just an app, it’s a full scale social network; think Facebook for travellers. You can keep up to date with where your friends are, get recommendations on great places and impress everyone with your great snaps. Gogobot, however, is only available on Apple devices that run on iOS. Try WAYN (Where Are You Now?) is a good alternative for those on other operating systems.
The Trainline
The Trainline app is one that will help you out a lot during your smaller-scale travels. Search train times and book your tickets all in one handy place. Simple.
Skype
Skype is the cheapest, easiest and most popular way of keeping in touch with friends and family while away on your travels. You can call other phones for next to nothing, or make free video calls if you and the other person are signed up to Skype. There’s no real reason not to be.
